Notre Dame (sorta) Joins ACC….Call Me Apathetic
As a kid when we went crabbing, even when we weren’t pulling traps or running the trot line, we always had someone with a net looking for “Doublers”. When crabs mated, the male would cradle the female along the surface, if you had a sharp eye, you could see them a few yards away, position the boat and scoop em both. Now granted the female was sent on her way, but if you were lucky, you caught one huge (and highly pissed off) #1 male.
Today the ACC caught a doubler, but unlike the crab boat, in this case we kept the small female, and tossed back the monster Jimmy. Notre Dame is now an ACC school…well in all sports except Football and Hockey. One of those sports is vital for the ACC, the other not quite so much, I’ll let you decide which is which.
Granted by grabbing 90% of Notre Dame’s Sports Programs, this probably makes it inevitable that Notre Football will one day be part of the ACC which is great for our conferences survival, but really, I’m about sick of this crap.
At one point I thought I was being old fashion “Back and my day we had 8 schools and that was a lot!!” (picture me saying that in my grumpy old man voice). But come on. I’m done with this. Someone please call time out on this conference re-alignment BS. Though you can’t convey it very well over a blog, but when I heard the Notre Dame news, I just rolled my eyes. This is the ACC, this is Tobacco and Sweet Tea. This is Chic-fil-a and Bo Jangles.
These conferences used to have meaning and identies, Big East was Bright Lights/Big City. SEC was the Deep South, the Big 12 was the great plains, and the Big 1(1)0 was corn country. And everyone in the PAC 10 was a surfer or hippie. Now there is nothing. I can’t even keep up anymore. Hell we are playing a Big 12 team in two weeks and it will be the shortest road trip of the season.
I’m tired. College Football Conferences are broken. Please someone fix them. I swear to god, if I hear one more interview from a Conference Commissioner saying what great shape they are in, and how happy they are to be in this position (of having either just lost or gained a school), I’m going to throw up.
Give me back my old ACC. Give me back my home and home basketball schedule. Give me back Road Trips to warmer places, and nuts to this expansion. Bigger isn’t better, and who cares about Notre Dame, it isn’t 1985, no one under 30 even understands that they were once good. So why? Why are we doing this?
Oh yeah, money and survival, that’s right. Of course having a larger and more fair playoff system where each conference gets a shot at a piece of the pie would help. Otherwise this musical chairs game is never going to end.
College Football is all about tradition, and how do you have tradition when everything changes every day? It’s ridiculous and has to end. Notre Dame is joining the ACC? Who the hell cares…..I don’t. No wait I do, I wish it wasn’t happening. Sorry, for being rude, my Southern Hospitality has been expanded away.

Get busy expanding or get busy dying. This is the new NCAA. The one good thing about all of this is that there will be 4 superconferences with a true playoff system no too far off in the near future. I stopped caring a couple of years ago. If they ever start putting advertising on the uniforms, I’m out.
