NCAA Reviewing Cassell’s Eligibility

Maryland Football and Maryland Basketball have always been sort of a ying and a yang.  Except for one brief glorious period in 2001 when we were a Final Four Team and a BCS Football School (remember those pick your poison shirts??), usually one is up, and the other is down.  This last year was particularly tough because both programs were struggling to re-build.  It was almost a lost year.  2-12 on the grid iron, followed by 17-15 on the hardwood.

But things were finally starting to look up.  2-0 Football start aside, we knew coming into 2012 Basketball was on the rise.  We may not return to the Big Dance this year, but there was a good shot we would.  And next year, forget about the Dance, we are playing for a seed, not just a ticket.

But now a storm cloud has once again over shadowed the program.  Like the Diggs Commitment that was then washed away by the O’Brien transfer, the Dez Wells pick up is followed by the news that Sam Cassell may not be eligible.  Long term we may survive this, short term this hurts our 2012 season.

The timetable, per the Baltimore Sun, hasn’t been determined, but I don’t have a good feeling about this.  Anyway, stay tune.  Maybe one of these days well get some good news followed by more good news.  Until then, rub your NCAA Rabbits Foot, and cheer like hell this Saturday for win #3.

Rumor has it that Cassell Jr.’s classes were fake or he was given a passing grade for work he didn’t do. Apparently one other freshman is caught up in the same mess this year. Sounds like Cassell Jr. will never put on a Terps Jersey. Well, any other transfers want to be a Terp? We’ve got room.
