Maryland Notes: Dez Wells and Temple

We will start with the good news.  Former Xavier Basketball player Dez Wells has announced he will be transferring to the University of Maryland.  Well last year averaged 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds.  Wells picked the Terps over Oregon and Memphis.

Per the Washington Post, Wells could play as early as this year, and Coach Turgeon and Maryland will be working hard to make sure he is eligible.  If so, he will bring a huge amount of experience (well for a kid who is going to just be a Sophomore) having started every game his freshman season at Xavier, including a 14 point, 11 rebound effort to get the Musketeers past Notre Dame and into last year’s Sweet 16.

That’s the good.  Now the not so good?

How would you like to live in a world where Maryland is a 10.5 point UNDERDOG to Temple?  Hopefully you don’t mind living in that world too much, because it’s this one!  Yep, that’s how bad things have gotten in College Park, yet even if Maryland CAN’T cover, they could still have a better effort against Temple than they did last year.  Sigh.

I don’t think Maryland showed us much in the William and Mary opener to make me think we can overcome those  10 points.  But who knows.  We are young and this team will get better over the course of the year.  Unfortunately so will our opponents.  At any rate, if Maryland does get to 2-0, it will be via an upset on the road.

What a world.

Looks like he is sittin out this year. Let’s hope he has his act together and can be around for a while. As for football, this to me says we are pretty much goin to be an underdog all season, and a vast majority of them will be of the double digit variety.
