Maryland Still Hush On Byrd Stadium Field Design
Apparently anything Maryland Football does these days is going to be a major production. We had the uniform fashion show. We had the pride uniforms for the Miami game, after they warmed up in normal uniforms. Well now that the natural bermuda grass field has been torn up at Byrd, the school and of course Under Armour, have yet to make the new field designs public. Speculation is running wild. Anything from a black field with a shell design in it, to a normal field with the state flag end zones has been discussed.
What do we know for sure? Not much. In a Baltimore Sun article, Kevin Plank did say the school wanted to have the coolest field, both figuratively and literally. Literally? What does that even mean. Will it have water spritzing out for those baking hot early September noon games? Will it have underground air conditioning? I don’t think so, but I did get an email today from a golf retailer selling some Under Armour gear with what they are calling coldblack. It supposedly is a black material that blocks out/reflects the sun. Since Kevin Plank is the one talking about the field being “cool” I am starting to think we are really going to see a black field at Byrd. Plank also stated, we will be seeing a lot of red and white this year. Is that because the field is going to be black? Stay tuned for something so simple that only Maryland will make a major production of it.

All I ask is they don’t embarrass us. I hope it is something we all enjoy, though I can’t imagine anything that isn’t just plain green that we’d all like.

Where there is smoke there is fire. This thing is going to be black with red and white end zones. It will have A/C and cruise control as well.
