Byrd Stadium Will Have a Green Field

Ok, I think I can breathe a sigh of relief now.  I was convinced Maryland was going to give us an all black field, and we would again be the laughing stock of the NCAA Football world.  Today the Athletic Department announced it will be a green Field Turf field seen below.  (Click on the image for a full size view)

Overall I think it will work out pretty well.  I don’t love the font the Athletic Department has gone to recently, but if that is the worst of the issues I can live with it.  At least they got the flag end zones right!

Just a note for all of you trying to figure out the cool part that Kevin Plank spoke of, this field will use a special blend of a silica based sand and rubber mix for the fill.  Supposedly this will lower the temperature on the field by about 15 degrees.  So that William and Mary opener will see temps of about 105 instead of 120.

Anyway, I think they got it right, save the logo at the middle.  I am not sure why we can’t just adopt the M with the flag on it in the middle.  Let us know what you think.

My only gripe is why does it say UMTerps.com and not turtledroppings?? Seriously though I like it. I too am relieved. If it were black, and temp saving would be negated by the color of the field.

I like it except for the Terra-font of Maryland in the middle. Love the end zone. I bet Anderson got the idea from our table.

Holy Crap J, I’ll bet you’re right. In fact, that’s it. D7 tailgate gets credit for the field design. Maybe we can put our royalties towards an RV or a Byrd Stadium Suite. I’d be fine with either!

Was the Cal game the debut of the end zones. Or should I say the Jahvid Best vomit game?
