Terps Hang on to Defeat Florida….Gulf Coast

It took Maryland a little while to knock off the malaise from turkey day, but eventually they did and got a lead, but allowed it to get a little closer than it should have been late.  I only have a few minutes, but here are some thoughts on the game:

  • Maryland misses Pe’Shon Howard.  If nothing else he can help against a press.  Speaking of a press.  Any team that doesn’t press us should be fired.  We are very weak at getting the ball inbounded, and then getting into the front court.
  • Free throw shooting is a disaster.  Terrell Stoglin was shooting about 90% prior to this game.  He was something like 10 of 13 at one point, but finished just 12 of 21.  Just my opinion, but I think he was worn out from single handedly trying to break the press the entire second half.
  • Nick Faust just needs to calm down.  You can see he is a player, but his shooting is ice cold.  The good news is he is still doing other things (steals, rebounds and assists).
  • It was nice to see  James Padgett improve his free throw shooting percentage to 41% with his 3 of 4 night.
I know it isn’t much, but the football game is about to start, and I had a busy morning.  Be assured we will be full tilt basketball starting with the Illinois game this week.  Go Terps.

It was a nice win. May not see too many this year. Faust should settle a bit as the season goes along. Stoglin went ice cold at crunch time. Not a good sign.
