Maryland Basketball…Just Relax

Look, we all know this was going to be a long winter.  We didn’t know the Football team was going to ruin the fall as well, but anyone who knows anything about Terps Basketball knew this season was going to be tough.  And it will be.  But don’t let it get you down. In 2010 I joked often about the Football Teams “Year of Low Expectations”.  I had so little hope in our team after the 2 win 2009 campaign, that anything positive that happened to us, was just icing on the cake.  So in 2010, when we won 9 games, I was in Pigskin Heaven.   Had I gone into 2010 with the mindset that we would compete for the National Championship, I would have been totally bummed.

But knowing that we are not going to be making a Post Season Tournament for the 2011-2012 Basketball season has to put to good use.  Watch the Terps every game and support them.  Notice the progress Nick Faust makes, or the amazing game Terrell Stoglin pulls out of his you know what.  But don’t get frustrated.  Don’t ever throw your remote (at least not this year). Just sit back and watch the game.

The success of the Mark Turgeon’s first year is not going to be measured in Wins and Losses, well maybe a little.  It will mostly be judged on getting this team moving in the right direction.  And this is a task he has proven time and time again during his career that he is up to.  So relax and enjoy College Basketball (after all what other Basketball is on this winter?).  Things are going to be better, we just have to endure some bumpy roads. Save the remote throwing, temper tantrum, angry texts for next year.  But for now this is all we got, but unlike Football, I don’t think our future could look any brighter.

 Extra Droppings:

Congratulations to the Woman’s Field Hockey Team for winning their 8th National Championship, and 5th National Championship in the last 7 years.  That is amazing.  Everyone associated with that program from past to present should be proud of their accomplishment.  To make this year’s Championship extra special, the Lady Terps rallied from 2 goals down with less than 4 minutes left only to take the title in Overtime against the #1 ranked Tarheel’s.

Actually, I like what I hear from the new coach. Instead of complaining about lack of intensity (which Gary saw as the answer to EVERYTHING), he talks about failure to run plays, something our guys clearly are not used to doing. But he seems to have a definite plan for this team and to be generally positive, even with kidney stones!

Yeah. I feel like the March 1st version of this team would kill the November 20 version of this team. Turgeon will get them playing better. Intensity is good, but it isn’t the be all end all.

I agree, you can see glimpses of improvement every game. It isn’t always for 40 minutes, but here and there you can see things slowly improving. I wish it was that way for football.
