Tate To Seek Medical Redshirt

Well, as if the loss on the field wasn’t enough this weekend, it was announced Kenny Tate will be out the remainder of the season for his knee injury.  What I did find interesting is that he will be seeking a medical redshirt.  I haven’t taken the time to research this, but I believe if you play in a quarter or less of your teams games you could be eligible for the redshirt.  Considering the year he had last season, you would think his draft status would still be fairly high at his natural safety position.  However, it appears he wants to try and play here again next year.  I guess that is good news for Maryland, but you have to feel for him.

I wonder if he told Edsall he will come back, but wants to go back to safety?  Still, interesting news.  He played as a true freshman, so I am going to guess he will have a good shot at getting that medical redshirt.  Stay tuned for more on that situation.  Now, can we just get Len cleared for basketball please!

You have got to pull for Tate. He was very highly recruited as a WR then switched to safety after Friedgen told him it would be the best move for his career. He decided to come back for his senior season even though he probably would have been an early draft pick. Now he is stuck having played a partial season out of position under a new coach who seems to be rubbing everyone the wrong way. I really hope he gets the redshirt. I just want to shout KENNY! for one more year.

If he gets it, I hope he goes back to safety. If he is going to play linebacker, I hope he goes pro. He isn’t going to help his draft status at LB.
