Terps: The Good and Bad (Mostly Bad)

Not sure what can be said about this effort tonight.  First and foremost I think Temple deserves a tip of the cap.  The way they played today we could have played that game 10 different times and I don’t think it is a stretch to say Temple would have won all 10.  Just complete domination on their part.

In fact as a Terps fan there wasn’t one thing to cheer about, for almost the entire night.  Just a disaster.  But there are two ways to go with this. One is to down play it, and move on.  The other is to claim the sky is falling and start running around like a chicken with his head cut off.  I’m going to compromise and try to fit this somewhere in the middle.  So let’s take a look at the what exactly happened, and what we can take from it.

G00d- Nick Ferrara punted the ball pretty well today.

Bad- Nick Ferrara punted the ball a hell of a lot today.

Good- We are still 1-0 in ACC play, not even FSU can make that claim!

Bad- We are the first ACC school to ever lose to Temple.

Good- We had 3 hours to digest what was happening and to brace ourselve for the inevitable loss.

Bad- Every person you work with on Monday is going to want to ask you what happened, well except for if you work with a PSU fan, he might just sit quietly in the corner thinking to himself how suprised he isn’t.

Good- I’m off on Monday for a Dr.’s Appointment.

Bad- That still won’t be enough of a break for my co-workers to let this slide.

Good- It’s Saturday night, if you sleep past 10:00 tomorrow, by the time you wake up in the morning, the rest of the country will already be in full NFL mode.

Bad- Still have 6 more days until the Terps can redeem themselves verse Towson.

Good- We no longer have to worry about our streak of not letting Danny O’Brien get sacked.  The pressure from that was just getting to be too much.

Bad- Danny O’Brien is certainly susceptible to the interception when we have to go one dimensional.

Good- I still think we can beat NC State, Wake Forest, Virginia, and Boston College.

Bad- I’m almost positive we have no shot against Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Florida State.  Heck I doubt we’ll keep the Yellow Jackets under 700 yards and 50 points.

Good- There are things more important in our lives than winning football games.

Bad- It’s September and I’m already using the “It’s just a game excuse”.

We are really going to be giving up a lot of points in the coming weeks. I don’t think this defensive scheme is going to stop anyone.

Currently they are ranked 103 in the country in yards per game, and 103 in points per game allowed. Not good. Wait until we play some schools known for offense. Oh by the way this has all happened at home. I am starting to lose optimism going forward. This is not a fluke when you are that bad. The defense is bad, period.
