Terps Bubble May Have Burst vs. UNC
This is the post I’ve been dreading. The Terps have been absorbing losses all year long, and with each loss, we’ve been telling ourselves “If such, such, and such happens, we’ll be okay”. Well that ends today. I think the camel’s back has been broken.
The Terrapins are not going to be participating in the NCAA Tournament. I am extremely disappointed in saying that, yet I can’t say that we got gipped, or had our spot stolen. We do not deserve to be there. The process does work. We looked like an NIT team playing a legitimate NCAA Team. And that is what we are.
I do want to give credit to Jordan Williams and Terrell Stoglin, they came to play. I’m not going to hound on who didn’t come to play because the box score can do that for me. But as I sat there watching this game, I couldn’t help but dream about the Stoglin-Howard backcourt, and quite frankly the future does look bright in College Park, just not the immediate future. If Williams stays all four years, I could see this being the last tournament we miss for several years.
Of course, that’s in the future, the present doesn’t look nearly as rosy. Things have gone from bad to worse, and I don’t think there is enough time to reverse them. Oh well. Wait until next year I guess.

Disappointing result for sure, but Gary pretty much summed it up going into the half when he said “we can’t grow, so we’ll have to work harder” (responding to pre-game concerns about UNC gaining a significant O-Reb advantage). UNC just looked taller for most of the game, and they were able to run with us for the most part.
We seemed to balance the rebound advantage in the second half, but it didn’t translate to the scoreboard. Aside from UNC’s 1st half block party, the most telling statistic for me was J Williams’ FT%: 0-0.

Yeah, I think we are cooked barring a miracle. That game showed us where Jordan Williams needs to work on his game. No ft’s against a team who was jumping out of the gym to block shots should tell you something. I can’t believe I am going to say this, and this a credit to him, but we are going to REALLY miss Dino next year.
