Weather Forecast for Military Bowl
Well here we sit in the middle of a busted winter storm. What looked so promising as I went to bed, is nothing but glorified flurries today. Of course if you are reading this on the Eastern Shore (and I am not tonight), you are probably wondering what I’m talking about since they are getting hit pretty hard.
Where ever you are though, you have to admit we came oh so close to having our first ever Maryland Football game in the snow. I am assuming it has never happened before, and I could be wrong, but even if I am wrong, the Terps in the snow is pretty unheard of. But this storm came too early, so even if we did get hit hard, that streak would still be intact. I just don’t know if we are ever going to have a better shot at a snow game, than we did this week.
So as hard as it is to image, we actually have a game this week, and I need to do a Forecast for the Military Bowl before it is too late. A typical December 29th in the DC area will see a high of about 44 F and an average low of 28 F. The record high for this day is an unbelievable 71 F set back in 1984. The record low is 12 F set in 1963.
The actual forecast is a bit off of the normal coming up cooler than average, yet for this time of year, it could be worse. The forecasted high is for 38 F and the low is looking to be about 22 F. So dress warm. I don’t need to remind everyone that a 2:30 pm kickoff time is estentially a night game since we are just a few days past from the shortest day of the year.
To be more exact the sun set is going to be 4:53 PM. We won’t have to worry about the sunrise as tailgating won’t officially begin until 10:30, which even in this darkest time of year, is still well after sunrise. The moon will be a waning cresent with about 33% illumination. It will rise early in the morning, and set just after lunch at 12:21 pm.
As for precipitation, we should be good to go. It will be cloudy, but the sun will be making an appearance as the forecast calls for Partly Cloudy skies. So overall a mostly clear cool December day which will give everyone a chance to break out any cold weather Terps gear they may have gotten over the Holidays. I know I will.
See you Wednesday.
