Maryland-Boston College Game Day
Man am I nervous. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve felt like this before a Football Game, but this one is just huge. We’ve covered all week long why this is so big, so there is no real reason to go over it again. So in the meantime just a couple notes.
If you read the comments on turtledroppings.com you already know that we’ve lost Pete DeSouza for the year to a scooter accident. The Sun reports that it was on Campus drive and the other car was in the wrong (No truth to the rumor that the other car had a BC sticker on it). Losing DeSouza is going to be a blow. Nick Klemm is a probably replacement, but we are likely not to know who is going in until kickoff.
I really don’t know what to say about this, it seems like story taken out of 2009, we had every possible bad break happen to us last year, but things seemed to be different in 2010, guess not. If you are going to take the half full outlook though, this gives another kid (if it’s Klemm, a Red Shirt Freshman) a shot, and give us that much more experience for the future. I’m not in the glass half full mindset just yet, but I’m working on it.
Going back to the game, for those interested BC is favored by 4. No shock there, what is shocking to me is that the line opened at 5 and then we lose our Tackle and all of a sudden the line drops a point. If I were DeSouza that might give me a little bit of a complex, but I’m sure he’s probably emotionally stronger than I am.
In terms of what people are saying I love to go to collegefootballnews.com. They have a lot of nice previews for all the games. Anyway, in their official prediction, they are going with BC 23-16 (wonder how we get to 16, 2 TD’s and two point conversion?, 2 TD’s and a safety?, probably a TD and 3 FG’s….yeah that makes the most sense). They also think Montel Harris will be the player of the game and will run for 125 yards. I certainly hope Alex Wujciak read that.
In their expert pick 2 out of 3 writers are going with BC.
One last note, the Over Under for this game (again if you are interested in that kind of stuff) is set at 41 so the line setters in Vegas and the bettors across America think this one will be low scoring. With BC’s defense and inexperienced offense, that seems to make sense to me.
Overall it looks as though the Terps will have to hill to climb today. Let’s hope they can shock some people (shock may be too strong of a word). If they do, we can finally leave 2009 behind and start making plans for a post Christmas Football game (though I wouldn’t count on anywhere warm just yet!). Anyway, 5 hours to kickoff. I can’t wait!!
Extra Droppings:
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers, I thought them celebrating with Ginger Ale was a nice tribute to Josh Hamilton who is a recovering alcoholic, but in case you were wondering, if I were in the Team Meeting and this idea was brought up, my alternative plan would be for Hamilton to wait outside the lockerroom while we celebrated with Champaign. Maybe that’s why I’m not in the MLB??

He’s their best player! They had to use Ginger Ale. It was a nice touch.
