Navy Forecast

Now that Earl is out of the picture and people all up and down the East Coast breathe a collective sigh of relief, it’s time to shift focus to the Navy game.  This is the time of year where the dog days of summer start to wane.  The sun gets up later, and sets a lot earlier.  As a result, less heat is pumped into our atmosphere.  But at the same time, September usually doesn’t give up the heat readily.  Ninety degree days are certainly not unusual.  Will we have one on Monday, we’ll lets see.

The normal high in Baltimore on September 6th is 81 F.  The normal low is 60 F.  The record high is 98F set in 1983, and the record low was 46F set back in 1962.  A few days before Earl rolled through all the focus was on the “great” weather he was going to leave in his wake.  And for a few days that appears to be the case, but by the time Monday rolls around, all the cool air and nice breeze we’ve been experiencing will be heading out.  Back comes the heat.  Each day I check in the High gets nudged a little further north.  It’s a trend that I feel will continue.

The official forecast is calling for 86 F with full sun.  I would certainly take this, but I think when the day is all said and done we are going to be a lot closer to 90 F than originally anticipated.  We may even reach that mark.  The good news is game time is set for 4:00 pm so the entire game will be taking place as the sun creeps lower and lower into the western horizon.  For the low they are calling for 71 F.  That 71 may not occur while we are outside, but once we get there, it will feel quite comfortable.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph there is no chance of rain.  That is good news because as I was researching the weather history for this post, the 5″ record rainfall caught my eye.  Of course it occurred in 1895, but still 5″ in a single day is a problem I wouldn’t want to have to deal with.

And finally looking at the moon, there will just be a little sliver of moon hanging out.  A wanning cressent with about 10% illumination.  Of course you may not notice it, as the moon set is scheduled for around 6:30 pm.

So to summarize, the official Turtledroppings Forecast is for a high of 88 F and a low of 72 F with nothing but sun.  Should be a pleasant day, but be careful because it is probably going to feel a lot closer to summer than fall out there.  But regardless of what mother nature throws at us…Let’s Go Terps!

You need to do a heat stroke warning like you do a snow warning. Could be a bad day for me.

Very true. Anytime we hit 70 or higher, you look like death warmed over.
