I'm assuming they want the market to themselves and not have to compete with another local school. The SEC schools have an advantage over the ACC schools when recruiting for football and as we know, football drives college sports. Get the better players, have better football, and get more money. There was a rumor of Louisville, but Kentucky doesn't want them.

I'm guesing when the expansion talks come up again that we'll hear the same schools: Texas A&M, OU, VT, maybe one of the NC schools and I wouldnt be surprised if Maryland is involved. I think Maryland has a lot of options and is in a great bargaining position: good academics, sports, and access to the DC market.

That is interesting about the Southern ACC schools and the SEC. Makes sense though, but it is odd how the VA legislature gets involved to get VT and UVA together, yet in the SEC they don't want to double dip with markets. I just wonder how the SEC is going to expand (and I'm guessing it is inevitable) without raiding the ACC. I can see them going after VT perhaps, but where will the other 3 schools come from?

This whole thing is giving me a headache, I wish the season would just start already.

Just to answer the previous post, but FSU, GT, and Clemson will never be invited to the SEC and it has everything to do with the fact that the SEC is already in those markets. There have been rumors that UF, UGA, and SC have agreed to block the invitation of those three schools.

Texas A&M is a logical choice and I wouldnt be suprised if there was some investigation into Virginia Tech. Conferences are expanding in order to get bigger TV deals and into new markets. Maryland will again play an interesting role in the next expansion rumors.

I really hope this is the end for now. I kind of feel like this past week was the Cuban Missle Crisis, but now cooler heads are prevailing. I hate the idea of grabbing teams for the sake of grabbing teams. If you are going to commit to bringing a team into your conference, you should be 100% sure they are a good fit. Then again, in this day and age, the Conference is only as permanent as the next season.
