Terps Basketball Awards Banquet Honors Seniors
I did not attend the Maryland Basketball Awards Banquet, but I can imagine it was a great night, and kind of sad at the same time. You could not have three players who did so much for the team in different ways. Landon Milbourne, went from averaging 1 point his freshman year, to scoring over 1,000 points for his career. He was rightfully awarded the most improved player. Landon was a guy who played out of position the last two years, so the Terps would be able to play their best five most of the game. It was a selfless act that will not soon be forgotten.
Eric Hayes finished his career as the all time leader in made free throw percentage for a career with a mark of .870%. For his efforts he took home the top free throw shooter award. Here is another player that just went out and played hard. I am sure it was tough for him as he lost his starting job twice during his career. You never heard a peep from him. He just went out and played the game the with the effort you hope everyone plays with.
The MVP award was presented to Greivis Vasquez. Not a real surprise for a guy who finished second all time on the career scoring list and assist list. For his team leading assist this year, he also won an award for that. I don’t think a lot of people really understood what we had in Greivis until this year. I know a couple of my friends who are in that camp. The truth is, we may never see another guy who wanted to win so badly, yet seemed to have more fun playing the game. He was the heart and soul for this team for the past three, and maybe four years. My favorite story will always be Greivis walking into Gary’s office and saluting him, saying he was reporting for duty. Also, a fan of the story of him wearing his own replica jersey around campus.
Two final awards were given to Jordan Williams for the top rebounder and to Sean Mosley for his hustle won the Fast Breakers Hustle Award.
Well, that officially wraps up the careers of Vasquez, Milbourne, and Hayes. This will go down as one of my favorite teams over the years. They were just fun to watch unlike some other teams.
Check back soon for a look at last nights Capital Classic.

Let’s not forget the two senior managers who each were presented an award from Gary…Kyle “Give me the F*&king Stats” Sweeney and John “I though my name was manager” O’Brien.
