Kicking It Old School

Nick Novak is back in the NFL.  The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the former Maryland kicker has signed on with the San Diego Chargers.  If you go back to my draft post, you will note that in addition to Hill and Davis in San Francisco, Heyward-Bey and Bruce Campbell in Oakland, we now have another Terps pair in California with Novak joining Shawn Merriman.  Of course Nick is only the back up plan for a banged up Nate Keading, but still it’s a paying gig!

This will be Novak’s 4th team (Redskins, Chiefs, Cardnials, and now Chargers).  He is currently 32 for 32 on PAT’s and 19 of 30 on field goal tries.  His longest being a 47 yarder.  If I’m not mistaken (and please let me know if I am) but wasn’t his kick as a Freshman against Georgia Tech, better known as the ”Das Boot” game, a 48 yarder?  Anyway, welcome back to the NFL Nick.  Not many kickers get a second chance like this, but hopefully Novak can get a few breaks and stick a little longer in the league.  We certainly wish him luck from his fans here at Turtledroppings.com.
