Vasquez and Williams Take Weekly Honors
Oh how things are rolling along nicely, and some people are starting to notice. Not only are the Terps ranked again but, two Maryland Players : Greivis Vasquez and Jordan Williams have earned ACC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Vasquez has collected his fourth on the season (I will do more research on how often that has occurred in a bit) by averaging 28 points and 9.5 assist in the two games vs Clemson (13 assists) and Virginia Tech (career high 41 points). It is interesting to note, Vasquez was a unanimous choice this week.
Williams has collected his second Rookie of the week honor I believe, by averaging 13.5 points and 10 rebounds in the two games. I honestly feel the Terps would not be in the position they are in without the development of Williams. He has been a tremendous player the last few weeks, and not coincidentally, Maryland is on a roll.
Give me a little time and I will look into how many times a player has been ACC Player of the week four times in a season. My guess, is baring a collapse of any kind, we are looking at the ACC Player of the Year!

Most people understand that Greivis was capable of this type of year, but Willliams has been a complete surprise and a god send!

So there is no need for me to look up all the info when Patrick Stevens was on top of it from the get go. Here’s to hoping he lands another job soon, and with someone who covers the Terps!

Greivis will not win ACC Player of the Year unless they beat Duke tomorrow night. The press votes for player of the year and the only vote in the state of MD is with the Washington Post who obstains from voting. The Carolina press and the press from the rest of the conference hate Vasquez. They don’t like his antics on the court and therefore will award Scheyer Face the award. That’s ok, we know who is the MVP of the league.

If Maryland wins, he is a lock. If they lose I say he still gets it, but I wouldn’t place a wager on it. Anyway, at this point, I really don’t care. This game can’t get here soon enough!
