Terps Survive Against FSU
Maryland got the road win we so desperately wanted to see. A close game, where they had to fight for all 40 minutes. This wasn’t the type of game we saw early in the ACC schedule when the Terps were seemingly firing on all cylinders. This was a game where there were a lot of lead changes, and both teams were able to go on runs. It just so happened the Terps were able to hang on going down the stretch. Had their been a couple more minutes in the game, I am not sure they would have hung on.
Greivis Vasquez led the team in a lot of categories again last night with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and also 5 turnovers. Sure the 5 turnovers are something he needs to cut down on, but other wise he had a pretty good game last night. Most importantly in my mind he did an excellent job getting the ball to Jordan Williams for some easy dunks last night. When was the last time we had a big man dunk 4 baskets? I am really becoming more impressed with Williams every game. It has been a long time since there has been a big man in Maryland with hands as good as he has. I was also impressed with the way he was able to battle Solomon Alabi on the blocks all night.
You have to give Landon Milbourne some credit as well. Sure he scored 18 points and had 6 boards, but his offensive rebound, and subsequent made FT’s with about 3 and half minutes left as FSU had cut the lead to 1.
Another key play was the charge that Dino Gregory took on Michael Snaer, that could have possibly given the Noles the lead with 14 seconds left. You also have to credit Dino for sinking those two FT’s at crunch time.
Overall, it wasn’t a perfect performance, but the Terps defense has been there consistently, and allows them to stay in the game when the offense is not as hot as it has been lately. They scrapped and fought again and were able to pull out the close game on the road.
It will be interesting to see what the weather does for Sunday’s game. While it sounds like the DC area is going to get hammered with snow yet again, it does look like things should be cleared up enough for Sunday’s game. If not open the door to all the students on campus and get that place rocking for Carolina. Even though they are down, they are still capable of pulling of the win.

Carolina lost again last night. The Terps did some bad things and some good things last night. Williams and Milbourne played very well. Vasquez and Hayes make me pull my hair out. Bowie is just a mystery to me.

I love Williams like he’s my own son. I hope Vasquez does a reality show when he goes undrafted next year. I think I hate him. But I love watching stupid people on reality shows.

Gv drives us all crazy but without him this team is not nearly as good. Period. It makes me nervous to think he will be gone next year. Williams has really impressed me. You can see him improving daily

Definite kudos to Williams, his addition is in measurable. As for UNC. I know they keep losing, but I won’t believe they are down until I see 12 guys in Carolina Blue walking off the Comcast floor completely dejected. Until then they are still Carolina.
And You are right, open the doors and let the students in!!

Williams and Mosely are my favorites. Vasquez is the key to this team but he will be undrafted this summer. It’s weird how you can love and hate the same person within the span of 30 seconds over and over again for 2 hours. Vasquez drives me nuts.

I’m sure the stats back you up that we’re better off with him. But I just can’t help question whether or not this was the guy we were supposed to give the green light to. The guy who we let do absolutely anything he wants on the court and we’re okay with it and chalk it up as, that’s just GV being GV and “that’s what you get from him sometimes.” I can’t name any specific player that I think should be ‘that guy’ so maybe the alternative is that nobody gets to be that guy and that they all have to play as a team by the same rules. I wonder if we could be just as good if after a wild turnover or stupid shot, he got benched. I’m not sure if that happened in prior years but I just don’t see that happening now and I still see plenty of decisions that indicate he has not matured enough on his own to make the right decisions. I think he needs more coaching than this.

Trust me, there are plenty of times, where I wonder what he is doing, and against Clemson, I was happy to see him on the bench and the team going on a run, but the majority of the time, if he is not out there the offense gets stagnant. He needs to try and reign in some of those crazy shots, and ill advised three’s, but I am standing by my opinion that this team is in trouble if he is not out there. I would loved to have seen him play with another true scorer, where he could run the point and shoot/score when it was there, but during his time, there hasn’t been that person he could count on game in and game out. I will say Jordan Williams, is starting to click with him, and before the end of the season he may become that guy GV can count on to get position, and catch the ball and do something productive with it. You can tell Vasquez eats up running the show and passing, but there are times he gets in that mode that he needs to do all the scoring, and that is where the turnovers and forced shots come up like a last call shot of Jaegermeister!

By the way, GV just named one of the 11 finalist for the Cousy award for the top pg. If he didn’t turn the ball over so much, he would be top 3 for this thing.
