More Honors for Greivis
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Greivis Vasquez has won yet another ACC Player of the Week honor. For those keeping score that makes 3 on the year. Over the last 3 games Greivis averaged 24.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds. More importantly the Terps went 3-0 over that span.
That’s great news for Vasquez, now on to the team. Despite going 3-0 for the week, the Terps once again fail to crack the top 25, but you know what. I don’t care. In fact I’m happy. It seems as soon as any ACC school starts to make a climb in the rankings, bad things follow. So I’m fine hanging out in 28th spot in both the AP and EPSN poll.
Speaking of ESPN (I’m all about transitions today), in the latest version of Bracketology, Joe Lunardi has the Terps as an 8 seed facing UTEP. They also have Kansas waiting for us in the second round. I think we should be a little higher than an 8, but then again, there is so much basketball left to play that someone should slap my hand for even looking that far ahead.
Speaking of looking a head (I’m on fire!) as I’m sure everyone knows, the Tigers will be in College Park this Wednesday, check back with Turtledroppings.com to get a preview of this HUGE match up.
Extra Droppings:
Congratulations to USA Hockey. It isn’t often in sports where the US is the underdog (except hockey and soccer), so seeing the National Colors worn as a bunch of scrappy B players out play the NHL All-Stars was very special. It wasn’t the miracle on ice, but it did feel like a Stanley Cup Final game, and their wasn’t a USA goal scored where I didn’t leave my feet (6″ vertical at least!!), and isn’t that what sports is all about?

I don’t even know where to look to find this info (though I am sure with a little effort I could find it), but he has to be getting into some rare territory having won it three times, especially since they expanded to 12. That was a big week. Lot’s of people contributed to the wins, but Greivis was the consistent force for the Terps.

Not that it matters much, but an update on Lunardi’s Bracket projections: Terps a 7 seed in the South vs. UAB.
Even though he projects 7 ACC teams getting in, the Terps are the highest ACC seed after Duke. Not a great reflection of our Conference this year.

Is it me or is Joe Lunardi college basketball’s version of a weatherman? He makes predictions on the tournament field based on statistics, latest trends, etc… He is never right and it is in fact impossible for him to be 100% correct. Basically, by the time the committee is selecting the field of 65 there are about 5 teams that could be in or out. It’s not a bad gig… but Lunardi is also pretty much stuck in the same job for the next 30 years…is there a logical promotion from Bracketologist?
