Fun with Numbers

Before I get on with this post I just want to say how relieved I was for them to win that game last night.  For about an hour and 20 minutes plus it looked like one of those night, and to steal one of Chris’s texts from the game, I was fully resigned to the fact that we were going to lose, but to pull that one out of the fire was a thing of beauty.

But enough about the team, let’s focus on the individual, as you know from our site we have been tracking Greivis Vasquez rise through the Maryland All Time Scoring List.  There is no doubt that his number will hang from the rafters and he will be listed among the greatests to wear the Red and White…and Yellow, and he certainly has the numbers to back it up.

The ACC is an old and storied Conference, what we all on the East and Southeast Coast consider the ultimate Basketball Conference, yet Greivis is on the verge of doing something that has never been done in the history of the ACC.  With just 5 more points Greivis will be the first ACC Player to ever record 2,000+ points, 700 assists, and 600 rebounds.  Think of all the great players who have come through this conference over the years, and none of them can make that claim.

Though he hasn’t done it yet, it does seem pretty obvious that he will, and we want to congratulate him for his effort over the past 4 years.  I think the only black mark for Greivis is that the team in his era has yet to go deep into the tournament and I think he will always have that stigma when we look back on these days, but if he is able to get the Terps to the Sweet 16, or even further, then I can picture the days when we are all sitting around trading Greivis stories.  But that story is yet to be written, but here’s to hoping that story is on it’s way.

Extra Droppings:

Did anyone else during last nights game wonder if Maryland has a Bass Fishing team?

NO. Why? Did you see someone with a rod and reel? I did notice that Burney was in uniform. I thought he was done.

  2. Chris B Says:

Burney was in uniform at Duke as well. Do you pay attention to anything?

Back to Greivis, now that we have bashed JH, he does a lot. I love how when he gets the ball his head is up, and he is looking up court for someone who has beaten their man. How times has he found Jordan Williams? He is not perfect, but he is the best we have, and will go down as one of the more decorated players in the programs history. I agree he/they need a sweet sixteen minimum, any thing above that and he may achieve rock star status.
