Viva VD!
Seems like I’m doing a lot of congratulating lately. Anyway the latest Kudos goes to Vernon Davis. VD who was flirting with the title of “Bust” in terms of draft picks, has completely reversed his fortunes. Vernon yesterday scored his 13th touch down of the year for the San Francisco 49′ers. If you remeber back a few weeks, he set the record for single season TD’s by a 49′er Tight End, but this 13th score put him in even more elite company. VD is now tied with Antonio Gates who set the bar last season.
The record was also broken in typical VD fashion. Not many TEs catch a 73 yard pass, but for those who watched him dominate as a Terp, that isn’t much of a surprise. The guy was a freak of nature. I think it is now safe to say the career that began with injury and issues, has now blossomed and VD is now one of, if not THE elite TE in the NFL. So Congratulations on your great season Vernon Davis.
Extra Droppings:
During the countless hours of bowl coverage I’ve watched over the past week or so, one thing sticks out. I saw an interview with Nick Saban in which he said the key to his teams performance was how they handled the 32 day layoff from the SEC Championship to the National Championship. He mentioned there would be a lot of distractions, such as post season awards, media attention, and some of his guys getting pursued by agents, but I found it odd the the word “Finals” didn’t come up in that conversation.

IN the SEC the players don’t take finals. That’s what the tutors are for.

And in the ACC, your best team loses to Iowa. Oh, and Georgia.
