That’s a Wrap: The Final Contest Update
First of all thanks to everyone who participated. I thought the contest went really well. Well enough to leave us scrambling for an idea for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. That isn’t an official announcement, but the odds of us not doing one are pretty long. So thanks for all your interest.
Last Thursday we officially ended the Bowl Pick’em with Alabama being crowned the National Champion. The fact of the matter was that the contest was over well before then. We all know that Rwimbrow was our winner, but let’s take a closer look at how everything panned out. The 16 of us combined to pick 287 bowl games correctly. Taking away the Eagle Bank Bowl, that is 33 game x 16 players, 287 out of 528 for an average of 54%. Not bad for a group. Now these Bowl games aren’t true 50/50 shots (I know Florida Cincinnatti surely wasn’t), but still not bad collectively.
Individually 12 out of the 16 players picked at a .500 level or higher. Isabelle on the otherhand picked 12 out of 33, which in it’s own odd way is equally impressive. I had a teacher in High School who gave a 100 question multiple choice exam, if you got 0 you got an A, if you got 1 right, well you failed. The idea was that you had to demonstrate a lot of learning to not accidently pick the correct answer. That kind of describes Isabelle, who picked so many wrong games, there had to be more than bad luck factoring in. But I can spin that all I like, she still came in last.
Another thing I noticed from the contest is that there were a lot of streaks put together. Eight players, or half the contestants, were able to put together a win streak of at least 6 in a row (or half of Isabelle’s total). The longest streak of 7 in a row was accomlished by CWB, Lebron James, JJH, and Rwimbrow, and for those curious those streaks did not coincide with one another, but each occured at different stretches.
Now on to some minor awards. First place in my house went to me! First place for those above the Mason Dixon line goes to CWB (not sure where Jonny Utah would fit geographically, but I guess with 13 it doesn’t really matter). First place in Pennsylvania goes to Tevin, and first place for those with a School or state in their user name goes to Clemson Girl with 19. Clemson Girl also takes the prize for highest score for a female. By the way none of these people actually win anything, it’s just a way of looking at the data via different angles.
Also want to point out that those living in Denton Hall their Freshman Year at Maryland picked at a 63%, and those who tailgate in Lot 1 on a regular basis combined for a 64%. Clemson grads picked at a solid 58% and Maryland Grads (a practical who’s who of the leader board) picked at a 61%, Maryland Grads who don’t have Utah in their user name however, picked at a 65% rate.
So anyway, here are the final 2009-2010 Bowl Pick’Em Standings, again thanks to all who participated:

Don’t forget the Terps kick off ACC play tomorrow against FSU. So look for upcoming posts about that. I’m guessing they will either be filled with pure rage, or controlled optimism, I don’t think there will be any middle ground! Gotta love ACC Play.

What a piss poor showing on my part! Next year I’ll actually do some research before picking the bowls with some of the lesser known schools…actually, that wouldn’t have helped me at all this year. There’s a chance I was on medication at the time I submitted my picks this year. I’ll vindicate myself during the Madness in March.
