Terps Roll Past Canes
In what is becoming a trend, Maryland started hot early and went on to cruise to another home ACC victory over an inferior opponent. Miami has had the Terps number since joining the ACC, but last night it was all Maryland, thanks to another total team effort and a really good defense showing. The victory has the Terps alone atop the ACC.
There is a lot of talk about how well the defense is playing right now and rightfully so, but the offense is really firing on all cylinders as well, with the team shooting 50% from the field, 46% from beyond the arc, and 72% from the line. I know this is not going to last forever, but it sure is fun to watch when it is happening. Individually the Terps we led by Landon Milbourne and Greivis Vasquez’s 16 points (GV had 9 assists as well to only 2 TO’s). Vasquez’s 16 points moved him into sixth place on the all time scoring list at Maryland passing Lonny Baxter. Also scoring in double figures were Eric Hayes and Sean Mosley with 10 a piece. The bench played well again last night getting 9 points from Adrian Bowie, and 8 from Dino Gregory.
The key for the Terps was the press last night. Miami had a really difficult time dealing with the pressure, and Maryland was able to force 17 turnovers, and I believe 14 of them were in the first half. In my preview post, I mentioned how I hadn’t seen the Canes yet, and after last night, they will not be what I consider must see tv!
Going forward we are not going to see many more nights like this, as the competition is going to improve. Next up is Clemson in Littlejohn, who dropped a game at BC last night. The Terps are now 4-1 in the conference, and have done what they are supposed to this point in my mind. I don’t think any of us would be surprised if the lost at Clemson, but the way the Terps are playing right now, I will be more than happy to take on the Tigers. Win or lose, you have to feel they are going to walk in their and put up a pretty good fight, and that is all I can ask for.
