Terps Fall to Wake
Sometimes writing a post is easy. Other times I wonder if I’m not coming from out in leftfield leaving everyone who is reading wondering where the heck I was coming from. So this post is either going to be spot on, or leaving everyone scratching their head.
But I’m fine with the Terp’s loss to Wake Forest. Heck I was proud of the team! During the last few years my biggest gripe has been “We aren’t even competing with these other teams”. Well last night they competed. Wake Forest gave them everything they could throw and we hung in every step of the way. In fact, if Sean Mosley puts another two inches on his jumper at the end of regulation, we are 2-0 in ACC play with a very nice road win under our belt.
I for one thought it was going to happen. To me Mosley is becoming my favorite player. We all like the Terps, but there is always that one guy who you really want to do well. I was like that with Cal Ripken as a kid, you didn’t want the Orioles to just win, you wanted them to win AND for Cal to have a 2-4 or 3-5 day with a couple RBI’s. For Sean I thought he played his butt off yesterday. Sure Greivis did as well, and a couple other guys had timely contributions, but I really thought Sean was doing everything behind the scenes that makes a player un-selfish and his team successful.
So when he tracked down the loose ball and freed himself for one last look at the basket as the clock winded down, I thought with every fiber in my body that the shot was going in. It obviously didn’t, but the fact that his shot didn’t go in shouldn’t cloud the effort of the team. They battled, they gave Wake Forest everything they had, they came up short in the end, but give me that effort every day and night for the rest of the winter and into March and I won’t complain.
That is what was great about the Juan Dixon era, those teams didn’t always win, but they played their butts off. And last night was the first time in a long time where the Terps lost and I didn’t throw the remote, I didn’t get the urge to vent on turtledroppings.com. I took a deep breath and thought to myself, wow they really battled. And that was refreshing.
Extra Droppings:
Well I’m an idiot. I lost my wallet at the Royal Farms in Queen Anne, MD. I must have left it on the counter. Luckily the manager found it and my business card and called me to say it was returned. I stopped by to get it and wouldn’t you know all my cash was gone, as well as my Discover Card (not my Mastercard or ATM, just the Discover). Of course my “cash” was 2$, which is even more maddening. Who the hell steals $2 from someone? Is there no decency left in the world, you couldn’t open it up, see there were only 2 bucks and then say to yourself, that the good deed of returning the wallet is probably worth much more to the karma gods than $2? Anyway, I cancelled the credit card and oddly enough there were no charges on it. So I guess it could have been a lot worse.

I agree on most accounts. On the road, all you can really ask for is a chance to win. The problem is, they had several chances to win and didn’t. I have no complaints with the effort from anyone. There were a few too many GV turnovers, a bad, bad foul by Milbourne on Aminu from 3, and 3 missed FT’s to start OT. I will take that effort every night and take our chances and see if they can pull it out.
Mosley is as tough as they come, and seems to just have basketball smarts. If he can steadily improve his offense each game and each year, he is going to be an all ACC guy by the time he is done.

I would much rather see Mosley with the ball in his hands at the end of a half or game. Vasquez takes terrible shots and is always heavily guarded. Give the ball to Sean!!!

Forgot to touch on the wallet part of that post. Trust me, when I lost/my wallet got stollen, it is worth every penny you have to only have lost $2 and canceled a CC. I had nothing. I used our HS yearbook to take to the Motor Vehicle Department with a pay stub to get my license back. It was a total disaster!
