No Rest for the Weary
As much as it would be nice to have a few days to savor our win over Florida State (one of our first legitimate wins on the year), there is no rest for Gary Williams and the boys, for they will be traveling to Winston-Salem to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Tuesday. Wake is coming off a 67-66 loss down in Coral Gables, FL to the Miami Hurricanes.
Wake Forest is 11-3 and 1-1 in Conference and would like nothing more than to hold serve in this match up. The Terps on the other hand will be playing in their first road ACC game of the year. If we know anything, any road win we can muster is going to be precious.
If the Terps could take this one in DC, they would have a very winnable game in Boston against the Eagles (they did lose to Maine for God’s sake). Then they would follow that up with a home game against Longwood. I don’t know much about Longwood, but I would assume that game would be winnable as well. This modest streak would give the Terps momentum as they head into the heart of ACC play, but it all starts with beating Wake Forest on the road. And that isn’t going to be easy.
In other “Cross Your Fingers News”, on Sunday Matt Bracken of the Baltimore Sun reported, lineback Javarie Johnson who decommitted from the University of Miami has decided to play football for the Terps. Now normally we never celebrate a recruit until the letter of intent is in Coach Friedgen’s hand (or the AD’s fax machine tray). But this one might be as good as in the bag since Javarie is looking to enroll in the spring. Again, too early to celebrate, but if you are looking for good Football news, getting a 4 star linebacker who decommitted from Miami is something to get optimistic about.
But that’s football news, for now we need to worry about beating Wake Forest.
