Couple Notes for a Snowy Day

I love the snow.  I know my writing partner does not because he lives in Boston and has to plow, but I love it.  So earlier in the week when it was supposed to snow a lot here in Maryland, I was pretty excited.  Unfortunately the models got together and decided not to share their pot of white gold with Maryland.  However, now I wake up to see that our measly Winter Weather Advisory is now a full blown Winter Storm Warning.  It doesn’t get any better than this….oh wait it does!

What the heck is it doing snowing on Saturdays?  I’m pretty much a long shot to miss work because of snow any day of the week, but I’m pretty sure I’m not going to miss work because of snow on a Saturday.  I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but Mother Nature, would it kill you to schedule these storms for like a Sunday night perhaps?

Anyway, just a couple things to ponder between sips of your hot chocolate.  Both Jon Condo and Vernon Davis will be the 2010 Pro Bowl (I’m sure everyone will be watching!).  I don’t know if I have ever watched a Pro Bowl before, but if you do, at least you have some Maryland interest.  Condo who is the long snapper for the Oakland Raiders made it for special teams (how they pick the best long snapper is beyond me), and Vernon Davis was obviously a no brainer having one of the best seasons among TE’s.  I can’t speak for Condo, but if you don’t see VD in the Pro Bowl this year, there may be other chances.

Also as most people have probably heard, former Maryland Basketball Coach Bud Millikan died this week at the age of 89.  We unfortunately were not around our computers to cover this, but we wanted to acknowledge his passing.  Bud Coached the Terps from 1950-1967.  Which also means he was Gary Williams and Joe Harrington’s coach when they were still playing.  Also and I think some of the major new outlets didn’t do this justice, perhaps by design or the family’s request, but Bud coached Billy Jones who was the first African American to play in the ACC.  I feel that is a fact that needs to be pointed out.

So how much snow are you getting? I am reading a book about Maryland Athletics that I got for Christmas, and I just finished a section with a lot about Bud Milikan. Doesn’t sound like he was a huge fan of his time at Maryland. He wanted out of his contract to go to a Big Ten school, and they didn’t let him. Enjoyed his players, but didn’t like the administration. Who else does that sound like?

I think we ended up with about 6″. I went to bed last night expecting 2″ maybe, it was a really weird forecast, wrong in a big way.
