A Little Terps Catch Up

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but the New England winter reared its ugly head again, and to top that off my Comcast internet service was out.  I hate to bad mouth a Corporation that donated a ton of money to Maryland to get the naming rights to the basketball arena, but I have had more than enough problems with my internet service up here in Boston.

Enough of that, let me catch you up.  I did go over to the BC game.  I was going to meet some co workers at the game.   They both had something to do in the morning, so I was going to go the Publick House in Brookline for some of the worlds greatest Mac and Cheese.  I got off the T in Cleveland Circle, and walked over to the Publick House, and it didn’t open until 4, and since I just got off the train, I knew it was going to be 20 minutes before the next one showed up.  So I hiked it up Beacon St. to Rogies and got there just as the next train got there.  I thought this was just going to be a sign of how the day was going to go, but alas it was not.  When I got to Rogies, it might as well have been Bentley’s.  It was a virtual red out, with a small spattering of BC fans there.  In fact, I might go so far as to say there were more Syracuse fans sitting in there watching the ‘Cuse, West Virginia game, than BC fans.  So over to the arena I went, but not before the place erupted into the fight song.

Things got off to a roaring start, and the Terps went on a an easy victory.  My experience at BC was great because by the end of the game, it was College Park.  During the game, and it may have been due to the fact the Terps controlled the entire game, it was a pro Maryland crowd.  A crowd that included everyone’s favorite Terp TV Personality Scott Van Pelt.  Sure the students were on winter break, but I really don’t know if Conte Forum will ever have the feeling of a big game.  I have been three times now, and not once has it ever felt like a true elite college atmosphere.  It is a hockey arena.  There are far more hockey banners hanging from the rafters.  The boards are there and kind seperate the court from the fans.  Sounds like a place that fits in the ACC doesn’t it?  While it is always cool to cheer on the Terps, I would never put the BC experience as a must see before you die list.  Of course, if you don’t come up, you are missing out on the Publick House Mac and Cheese I had after the game!

Now onto Longwood.  The Terps again made short order of the Lancers and that was very important for me to see that continued effort we saw against Wake and BC.  Six players were in double figures, and the game was never in doubt. In fact 5 minutes into the game the Terps were on pace for 184 points (how is that for you Bob?).

Where does that leave us now?  A big conference home game against the equally hot NC State Wolfpack.  This is a big game for the Terps.  Both teams are playing well, perhaps the best they have been all season.  It is going to be very important for the Terps to continue to play with the effort and intensity they have the past couple of weeks.  There is no room for a clunker.  The Terps have to hold court at home, and let’s face it, this is a game they need to win, if they want to be serious about making the big dance.  Check back before the game for the Terps keys to the game.
