Terps Outlast Indiana

You hate to call a game on the first day of December a must win, but following the two losses in the Maui Classic, the Terps needed a win.  Sure this Indiana team isn’t as good as they have been in the past, but it was a good test for the first true road game of the year.

The first half belonged to Landon Milbourne.  He kept the Terps in the game and helped them get to a two point half time lead.  For the game he finished with 19 points and 7 boards.  Greivis Vasquez continued to struggle from the floor (4-14), but did manage to convert 13-14 free throw attempts on his way to 23 points and 8 assists.  Sean Mosley also played a solid game adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. Eric Hayes also chipped in 14 points.  While Jordan Williams struggled a bit offensively with a couple of traveling calls and only 1-5 from the free throw line, he recorded 11 rebounds, and I think we all feel that is what he really needs to do.  I think the free throw shooting and composure will come in time, but for now if he defends and rebounds, he is an asset to this team.

You also have to give credit to Gary Williams for going to the 3-2 zone.  Indiana was able to get some easy transition baskets and Gary decided to go to the zone.  While the game was still close with about 10 minutes to go, Indiana managed to only score 12 points in the last 9 minutes of the game.

It wasn’t the prettiest game, and it wasn’t the most well played game, but the effort on the boards was there.  There were times where it seemed the Terps wanted it more in the second half, securing loose balls and getting key rebounds.

While this wasn’t the way you would like to see them play, the bottom line is they won on the road following a trip to Hawaii.  Not exactly an ideal scenario, but they got the job done.  The nice thing is they have plenty of time to work on some things before Villanova comes to DC on Sunday.
