Maryland Rolls as They Return From Finals

The brutally long break in Maryland’s schedule for final exams, is over, and the Terps played a solid game against an inferior opponent.  Winston Salem St. wasn’t exactly the toughest opponent on the schedule this year, but coming out of finals, I was impressed with the performance of the Terps.

First thing you had to notice is the re-emergence of Greivis Vasquez.  There were signs heading into finals, that he may be on his way back to being the player we remembered from last year, but until last night, he hadn’t had a complete game.  I would certainly say 27 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, 1 turnover and couple of steals qualifies as a complete game.

Greivis wasn’t the only one who played an all-around game either.  He was the one who had eye popping numbers, but you could run down the list and almost everyone had a solid game.  Mosley added 13 points, Hayes had 10, and Cliff Tucker and Jordan Williams both added double digit points of the bench.

For once this season it was Maryland who was raining three’s.  66% on the game going 12-18 gives you some hope that these guys can get hot when they need to.  Overall, on the night they shot 56%, and that was nice to see for a change.

While this game wasn’t a huge test, I was anxiously awaiting the tip.  I would have watched them scrimmage middle schoolers last night!  Before we know it St. Nicholas will be here, followed by visits of all our ACC foe’s, and that is what helps this Bostonian get through the miserable New England winters.  I will be traveling for the holiday’s, so just in case I don’t get to write another article before we leave, let me be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas.

I know nothing about Jordan Williams – what he did in high school, how heavily he was recruited, etc – but from the very few games I’ve seen this year, I want that guy on the court more often than less.
