Ferrera, Francis, Hartsfield and Dill Earn All ACC Freshman Honors
The University of Maryland has announced Nick Ferrera and DL A.J. Francis were named to the Sporting News All ACC Freshman teams.
Ferrera had a solid season as a place kicker (18 of 25), and more impressively, did a wonderful job as the backup punter filling in for the injured Travis Baltz.
Francis started 10 games on the line and played in all 12. He recorded modest stats (31 tackles 1 sack), but the future looks bright for A.J. He will be depended upon heavily going forward in his career for the Terps.
Ferrara also made the Rivals.com All ACC Freshman team along with R.J. Dill and Demetrius Hartsfield.
Dill was one of the more consistent players on the offensive line all season, and will be fixture moving forward for Maryland.
Hartsfield was the player that stood out for me. He missed a couple of games due to injury but still racked up 3.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and 65 tackles over all. He looks to be the next star LB for the Terps.
So while Fridge consistently reminded us all, how young the Terps were all season long, there are a few bright spots that jumped in early and made immediate impacts. So while the season was disappointing, there is still hope for the future.
Just an important reminder to get your picks in for the bowl pick em contest we are sponsoring. Here is all the info you need to enter. Games begin Saturday, so get your picks in soon. Good Luck!
