In a game where Greivis Vasquez moved past one of the All-Time Terps on the career scoring list, the Terps were picked apart no matter what defense they threw against William and Mary. Vasquez led the Terps with 26 points and moved past Walt “The Wizzard” Williams into 11th place on the career scoring list. Landon Milbourne had his first career double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the Terps still fell to the Tribe by a score of 83-77.
The problems was Maryland’s defense though. William and Mary broke the press with ease and often times turned it into a 3 on 1 or 2 on 1 scoring opportunity which they took advantage of in building a 9 point half time lead while shooting 50% from the floor. The second half Maryland went with more of the 3-2 zone and half court man defense, and William and Mary found the open spots on the defense with ease. Back door cuts, drive and dish, you name it, the Tribe put on an offensive clinic against the Terps.
The Tribe shot 8-23 from three, while Maryland shot only 4 of 25 from beyond the arc. When it came to desperation time William and Mary took care of business by shooting 80% from the line, while the Terps only converted 68% of their shots.
Up next for the Terps is a game at UNC-Greensboro, where Greivis Vasquez will likely pass Terrence Morris on the career scoring list and move into the top 10.
