Another “W” and an Update

If you are a glass half full type of guy, Maryland beat Florida Atlantic yesterday without much drama (72-59).  The Terps improved to 8-3 while Florida Atlantic fell to 5-7.  Landon Milbourne had 19 points, and Greivis continues to show signs of becoming himself again by putting in 26.  That is the good news.

If you were a glass half empty guy, the glaring stat from this game is that the Terps were out rebounded by a much smaller team 49-45.  Against Florida Atlantic, this can be overcome.  Against an ACC team, this is needless to say a huge problem.  The Terps looked to have more inside presence this season, and that thought is what many of us hung our hopes on for returning to being a top 25 program.  But unless we can figure out how to battle for these missed shots.  We will probably spend another Selection Sunday pacing the floor.

In the category bad news that doesn’t really matter.  Sean Mosley sat out of Sunday’s game with a sprained ankle.  It doesn’t appear to be serious and he is expected back for the William and Mary game.  Cliff Tucker got the start in his place.  The timing of this “incidient” is what is perhaps most worrisome.  Mosley missed a game after his huge feature in The Sun, can’t help but wonder if there isn’t a new curse looming to replace the SI and Madden Cover ones?

Now on to the Contest.  AK was right yesterday when he said that Clemson-Kentucky was a huge game for him.  It was, but not in a good way.  I find it funny that 14 out of 16 people picked Clemson to beat Kentucky when a vast majority of those people know that you NEVER trust Clemson.  But the Tigers came through giving the ACC it’s first Bowl Victory of the season (though Pitt and BC didn’t exactly embarass themselves out there).  With the Tigers win, everyone not named AK or Isabelle, please take one step forward.

Next up is the Independence Bowl which kicks off at 5:00 pm today and features Georgia vs. Texas A&M.  In my one pool I’m doing at my mom’s work we have to rank our confidience in our picks from a scale of 34-1.  I have Georgia winning this one as my 3rd most confidient pick, so don’t let me down AK!  As for our contest, we are split pretty evenly.  JAdams, Rich Adams, Jonny Utah, Lebron James, Great Ape, Isabelle, and AK all have Texas A&M.  All those not listed have Georgia.

Again only one game yesterday but I’ll update the standings anyway, so here goes:

JD Leavitt  7 (currently in the middle of a 5 game win streak)

Rwimbrow 7 (has yet to lose two in a row)

RIW 3  6

Tevin  6 (has won last 3 in a row)

CWB  6  (has won last 3 in a row)

Clemson Girl  6  (has won last 3 in a row)

JJH  6  (has won last 3 in a row)

Rich Adams  5  (has won last 3 in a row)

Lebron James 5 (LB has been hot and cold, unfortunately the cold streak extended for 4 games, until USC Stopped it)

Jhannold  4 (has won last 3 in a row)

Great Ape 4 (in some states her picks would be classified as child abuse)

VT Fan 4  (has won last 3 in a row)

AK 4  (still the most dangerous 4 point team out there)

JAdams 3  (throw out the first 5 games and she is .600 over the last 5…and that’s about all the spin I can do on that one)

Jonny Utah 3 (a modest 2 game streak going on)

Isabelle  3 (looking to begin her second winning streak today)

Extra Droppings:

In other news, due to my declining health, and desire to spend time with my family, I will be leaving Turtledroppings.com next season.  I began to look around and ask myself “What happens to my kid’s if I’m gone?”.  Upon hearing the news my oldest daughter said “I’m glad to have my dad back.”.

Then I had a really “spirited” post on Sunday and decided to change my mind.  I will be back afterall.  Oh wait, that’s Urban Meyer, not me!

J, this gig is far to lucrative to give up!

I picked A&M though now I think UGA will win. We are playing without our defense coaches, who we fied, so I don’t really know what to expect.

I am worried about A&M’s offense.
