Wakey Wakey!!
God do I miss “My Name is Earl”. I’m just now coming to grips with the idea that it isn’t coming back. And you know who I blame? Reality TV! You can throw one of those shows together in 3 minutes for a fraction of the price and people will watch it. But now for those of us who enjoy watching real actors playing out real comedy we are left with cat fights and sloppy drunks embarrassing themselves (that reminds me I have to make sure Real World/Road Rules “Ruins” is taping).
Oh well, this isn’t a TV blog, and I’m not at the “Extra Droppings” section yet, so I’ll just move on. Today is a big day for Maryland. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a win here puts us in the drivers seat. The ACC schedule is also set up very nice for us, if we were to get that W. This would put Wake as behind us as Clemson now is, and BC who is shocking everyone will have to put away VT just to keep up. FSU is also facing GT which is a match up I certainly don’t envy. So everything is in line for a huge shake up in the Division.
Of course none of that matters if we can’t take care of business today. And that is why today is so big. (I feel like I need to keep reiterating that because most people think Big Games should be televised, but don’t let the ESPN360 thing fool you, this is huge!). What is also huge is how the Defense reacts today. Don Brown has really tightened things up over the last few games. The results haven’t always translated in the W column (with the obvious exception of Clemson) but take away the terrible field postion the offense has been handing over, and the results aren’t that bad. In fact they are good!
So today the key to watch for is the Defense. Are these guys for real? Is the improvement going to continue? Can they shut down Riley Skinner a 5th year Senior who can improvise, as well as they could Freshman Kyle Parker? If they can we can do this, and not only that, but we can start to see this team coming together at the best possible time. But if the Defense relapses, well then the long year we were staring at walking back from the Rutgers game becomes more of a reality.
I don’t know what is going to happen. Wake seems as hard to predict as we are. But I do know that I am watching a very important Maryland Game, and just 8 days ago, that was a sentence I didn’t think I’d use in 2009.

Didn’t turn out so well after all. At least we have the Pumpkin Contest next week.
