Wake Forecast

Well the excitement of the big win over Clemson can only go on for so long.  Then it’s time to prepare for the next match up.  No rest for the wicked.  And now we move on to Winston-Salem down in North Carolina to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.  If we are really going to make noise in the Atlantic Division this one is huge.  If the Clemson game was just a lucky break, we’ll probably know pretty early in the Wake game.  If it wasn’t luck and this team has truly turned the corner, then I don’t think you could overstate the importance of beating Wake Forest this weekend.

Think about it, next up would be UVA at home, then Duke, and then NC State.  Now I may be getting ahead of myself, but I can’t stress enough how important this Wake game is.  Of course Wake is also our first ACC road game of the year and those are never easy.  And Wake has shown that they will play all 60 minutes.  In fact they are probably right now thinking about how this ACC season is falling into their lap.  Truth be told, whichever team takes this one is going to have set themselves up quite nicely.  So let’s take a look at the weather for this match up.

The average high in Winston-Salem on October 10th is 70 F, and the average low is 50 F (some nice round numbers to work with).  The record high on this date is 89 F set back in 1997, and the record cold is 30 F which dates back to 1987.  That is quite impressive to get that cold in North Carolina in early October.  Of course Winston-Salem is about 800 feet higher in elevation than College Park, so despite heading south any warmth you’d gain by heading in that direction is cancelled out by the elevation.

For this Saturday it looks like we are going to be seeing a pretty average fall day in Winston-Salem.   The weather.com forecast is calling for a high of 72 F and a low of 54 F.  If you are heading out to the game keep in mind there is a 50% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday so be ready.  Assuming you can dodge the thunderheads it should be a pretty nice day.  In fact weather like this is what makes October such a great month.

So there is the forecast.  I don’t think weather will factor much in this one, and that’s the way it should be.  For a game of this magnitude (and though it is hard to grasp that, this really is a huge game in the division) you really do want to see the teams on equal footing.  Let’s hope the Terps can build on the Clemson win, and make the rest of this month as equally interesting.

If they have a place on the water with crabs, is it too late for a road trip?

Yeah Probably. They are also pretty far from the water, so when you talk about crabs that far west, you usually aren’t talking about the same thing…you know?
