Turn the Page

I’m not going to recap the Duke loss.  I can only re-write the same material so many times.  Turnover this, penalty that…whatever.  I find the fumble of the punt to end the game more ironic now than anything to get angry about.  Sure if Tony Logan held on to it we might of had a chance to go down and pull off a miracle, but you know what, I don’t think it would have mattered.  We would have maybe gotten one first down before the drive petered out either by downs or another turn over.

The season is a complete disaster, we have 2 wins, but the line between us and 0-8 is extremely thin.  Maybe I’m just depressed now but nothing that has happened this year has gotten me the least bit excited about what is going to happen next year.  Maybe if Jamar Robinson comes in and looks like a world beater, I’ll change my mind, but we’ll cross that mythical bridge when (if) we get to it.

So all there is to do now is raise the white flag and turn the page.  Luckily for us we have basketball season, and this one in particular should be pretty excited.  The Pre-Season ACC picks are out. And things look pretty interesting.  Overall the predicted order of finish is:

Duke

UNC

Clemson

Georgia Tech

Maryland

Wake Forest

Florida State

Virginia Tech

Boston College

Miami

UVA

NC State

I’ll take a fifth place finish!  Of course I think we can finish even higher than that (the 2009 Football Season’s lessons in optimism have already been lost on me!).  What else is interesting is that our very own Greivis Vasquez made 1st Team All ACC with the most votes of all players.  However, because he doesn’t play in the state of North Carolina, it would be too much for him to be pre-season player of the year.  That honor went to Kyle Singler (but Vasquez was only a few points behind).

Also if you have not noticed yet, we are going to be keeping track of Vasquez’s career point total on our site.  I don’t know where else you can find this information so keep checking back on it.  Greivis has a real shot to finish pretty high on the All Time Maryland Scoring list, so we figured that would be worth following.  So the good news is that relief is on the way, I hate giving up on the Football team like this, but it’s pretty apparent we are a basketball school in 2009.

Extra Droppings

I must be losing my touch, how did it take me this long to put together that Greivis has the same last name as Andrea Zuckerman Vasquez from 90210 fame?  (Or Hannah Vasquez from the new 90210!) I should have been on that much earlier.

What is this football you speak of. I read some notes from some people who went to the hoops scrimmage. Sounds like Jordan Williams might be a bit of a project, and Padgett is looking like he will be able to help contribute early. Now that football is about dead to me, I will start working on some more bball material.

I’m optimistic about next years football team. We will be losing Turner but a lot of young guys have been getting PT this year. The offensive line should be improved for next season. All of our running backs and receivers will be back. The defense will have a year with coach Brown’s scheme under their belt. Lastly, It wouldn’t shock me in the least if we get a big win before the season is out. I’m serious. Watch out VT and FSU. I’m just saying, anything can happen and I believe these guys have a big game in them. Lastly, Robinson isn’t the answer this year.

After watching the game on ESPN360, I was somehow convinced to buy a Toyota hybrd.

Ok, Im not sure we can pull out a win again this season but the Terps have been known to always play to the level of their opponent, so maybe JH has a point. But this is my question and why I think that will not happen…how in the world do you get 3 turnovers and let the other team rack up 96 yds in penalties and STILL lose the game? Ridiculous, on any normal team you would win, but the Terps have found ways to hand over wins.

And what I am hoping with this first loss to Duke in football, is that maybe we can get a sweep of Duke in basketball season! Here is hoping!

AK, I agree about the Toyota’s. It used to just be sports center ads, but now they are mixing it up. They need to find a mix of ads, not ramming something down our throat.

J., I agree they could surprise someone, just not sure who. I don’t think VT is the answer. I will save my thoughts for next year for later.

I don’t know how they didn’t lose to Clemson so maybe the will find a way to not lose to VT or FSU.
