Duke Forecast

I don’t even know what to say anymore.  We are offically underdogs going into Duke.  If this was the show “Intervention” this would be the part where we wake up naked in a ditch somewhere.  We have indeed reached rock bottom.  What scares me the most about this year is that we could very easily have lost to JMU, and in hind sight the win over Clemson looks more and more miraculous every weekend. The line between 2-5 and 0-7 isn’t that thick.  In fact I’ll bet we are one of the few teams in Division 1 who have yet to line up in Victory Formation (on second thought we might have downed it at the end of Clemson, but still).

Though I could go on and on about this season, anything I write isn’t going to change what has happened.  We just have to move on, and in this case, it means trying to roll into Duke and pull off an upset (I can’t believe I just wrote that).  So let’s take a look at the weather for this Epic Battle.

A normal October 24th in Durham, NC sees a high of 69 and a low of 45.  That’s actually quite nice.  The record high for this day is 87 set in 2001, and the record low is 26 set in 1969.  This weekend looks to be right around those averages.  The forecast is for a high of 73 F and a low of 44 F.  That would be a pretty beatiful fall day if it wasn’t for the rain.  As of now there is a 70% chance or rain and or thunderstorms.  Though I’m sure Duke will hold on to the ball just fine, look for the Terps to add to their astronomical turnover ratio in the slick conditions.

Extra Droppings:

I am not a Phillies fan, but I am really hoping they face the Yankees in the World Series.  I have a bunch of friends and family who are Phillies fans, and I want them to feel what it is like to hate the Yankees and their All-Star bloated, salary cap mocking line up.  Then they will have somewhat of an idea about what the last 13 years of my life have been like.  I guess you could compare it to when you drink something gross and your first instict is to grab your nearest friend and say “Wow this is the grossest thing ever, here taste it.”.  That’s how I feel about the Yankees.

If one more “head” talks about how clutch A-Roid is now I’m going to throw up. He hits one homerun to tie a game and another walk off in a series that isn’t even that contested and he’s a clutch player? What about all the other years when he did nothing. Oh well. Maybe the Yankees will lose again in the World Series and MD will beat Duke in football and basketball. Then all will be right with the world.

No offense to Bix’s Phil’s, but I don’t see anyone stopping the Yankees. Its amazing that a team that spend 3x as much as everyone else would be successful!

You know, I don’t expect the Phils to win it all against the Yanks, but after watching them come back the other night, against Broxton, I feel like maybe it is “their destiny”(in my Vader Voice). Bob, did you forget I lived in Denton Hall, I already hate the Yankees! Viva Ken Griffey Jr. AKA General Lee!

A Phillies/Yankees WS is the worst possible outcome to a baseball season. The O’s once again 30+ games out doesn’t help. Clemson losing to this awesome MD football team is the cherry on top. No wonder I’m watching English soccer now. F.

Yanks aren’t even guaranteed a place in the WS. The Angels have been Yankee killers for the last 6 years, and the only reason they’re down 3-2 is because they forgot how to field the first two games. I’d love to see a Yanks-Phillies series, though. Phillies are the hottest team in baseball, and I wouldn’t mind keeping it on the east coast. (full disclosure: I’m a Terps alum and Yanks fan. My wife is a die hard Hokie grad and O’s fan. She still has a crush on BJ Surhoff. It’s a wonder our marriage has survived to this point.)

Oh yeah I forgot about the General. He will always have a place in my heart. That series against the Yanks he was unbelievable. It’s a shame he got hurt so much later in his career.

Who Urban, it must be a long 6 months every summer in your house hold, but at least you each have one good team to cheer for (I just wish it was Maryland for you and the O’s for her!).
