The Suckiest Part of Being Sucky

As we all know by now the Maryland-Clemson game has been set for the dredded noon kickoff.  If there is any consulation it is that apparently (and by apparently I really mean “Miracously”) this game is going to be on ESPNU.  I guess that makes sense since movies such as “Titanic” and “Gone With the Wind” are all based on terrible disasters.  Using that logic, Terps-Tigers should be pulling Super Bowlesque numbers.

I’m going to try to not try to turn this into a complaining session (not the word I wanted to use).  But I got an email from my sister, a Clemson Alum, who was asking about the game.  Instead of talking trash or saying something witty all I could tell her was that I was sorry we weren’t going to be able to put up much of a fight.  She wrote back joking, that it would be typical of Clemson to beat MTSU and lose to a team that subsequently lost to MTSU.  And most years I would have agreed, and the sibbling rivalry would be re-newed as it has been for the last 9 years.  But all I could do is shake my head and write back “No you have no idea what is going to happen, we don’t have a prayer.”.

And this is what hurts the most.  As Chris wrote in his post about Gary’s extension it is starting to feel like the 90′s again.  While that may be great for Basketball, being irrelevant in Football by week 3 is really the worst possible fate for myself (and I’m guessing I’m not alone).  I LOVE College Football.  I love watching games and hearing the bands in the back ground.  I love watching the scoreboard and looking for upsets.  I love seeing an ACC final score and wondering how that is going to affect our shot at the division.  And now with how this season is panning out, I feel robbed of all of those (except the drums of course).  It is like waiting for Christmas Morning only to get socks and underwear while everyone else is opening Play Stations and Wii’s.

That is the suckiest part of sucking.  I feel cheated of the whole College Football experience.  Now I try to talk myself into it and remind myself that we are still 0-0 in conference, and could, as crazy as it sounds, make it to a BCS Bowl, but I don’t truely believe that.  Not even a tiny bit.  Oh well I guess there is always basketball season.  Didn’t think I’d have to use that line again.

Things are changing. You and I are more pessimistic than J.

Yeah, what the heck is going on. I’m usually doom and gloom now you guys are taking over. I think we will turn this thing around and I’m guaranteeing a victory over Rutgers. Heck I will even be crazy enough to say we will win our next 4 games. We will be 3-0 in conference going into the Duke game and we will somehow lose that one to bring the whole thing crashing back down to earth. I can totally see that happening.

I don’t know what is in the air up there in your part of the state, but something is going on. The sad thing is I wouldn’t be surprised to go 4-0 or 0-4.

I think we should really enjoy our tailgates cause we’re not going to be having much fun after kickoff this year. But I can def see the JH prediction coming true – give us hope and then as soon as we start checking bowl schedules, rip the astro turf out from under us.
