Coach Williams Earns Contract Extension
When you need some bright news in the Maryland Athletic department, you used to be able to depend on the basketball team to provide that information. There were a few years where that wasn’t the case, but Gary Williams seems to have the Terps moving in a real positive direction again. For his troubles last season (a season where us fans were starting to call for his job), Gary earned an automatic extension based on classroom and on court achievements of his players. This current extension runs his contract through June 30, 2013.
It feels like old times in College Park. You know back in the 90′s when football was just something to pass the time until basketball started. Surely the football season is not over yet. There are some veterans on the team that can step up and right the ship, but a couple more clunkers like Saturday’s loss to Middle Tennessee, and it will only be a matter of time before we really shift our focus to the round ball.
I expect Gary to earn another extension following this season. I believe the seniors are all on pace to graduate (don’t quote me on that, but I am pretty sure I read that), and with Greivis Vasquez back, the Terps should be a very strong team this year.

I believe you called for Gary’s job last year.

I thought it might be time, but I was not excited about who they might hire as a replacement.

How do you feel now? Maybe we can get Calipari when he wears out his welcome in KY.
