Water, Water, Everywhere!
As most people could probably imagine, Marylands Scrimmage last night was postponed to Sunday afternoon at 1:35 pm. I have no idea what the weather was like in College Park yesterday, but I can tell you what it was like in Caroline County….BAD!
Because we have Satellite internet (no Cable here in the sticks), we spend most of the day yesterday with a “Page Cannot Be Found” message on our monitor, but in the evening when we finally got through, the National Weather Service had issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Caroline County. Included in that warning was that Ridgley Maryland had received over 13″ of rain since that morning, and that many roads were closed, and several bridges were out because of the rain.
And I believe it. If I look out my front door I can see my yard, our road, then a rather large corn field, and then woods about 1/4-1/2 miles away. In the winter time I judge how hard it is snowing by whether or not I can still see the woods, several times yesterday I could not see the woods because of rain. We also have a 2-3 foot ditch at the end of our driveway. Last night that ditch we not only full, but over flowing, and though I didn’t keep an eye on it all day, I have little doubt that at times of peak rain fall the ditch was flowing onto the road.
So needless to say, I understand why the scrimmage was cancelled. It may have not been that bad in College Park, but when you have situation like that “not as bad” as somewhere else, can still be bad enough. Look for scrimmage notes either later today or tomorrow. www.umterps.com should have them up and once they do I’ll recap the highlights here. I unfortunately won’t be there to watch in person.
Extra Droppings:
As mentioned earlier, we can not get cable at our residence, so therefore we have Direct TV. I don’t have anything bad to say about Direct TV in fact I’m quite happy with it, but on occasion (not very often) it goes out in bad weather. Yesterday was considered bad weather. I got 2/3 of the way through “Red Dawn” when it finally gave out. Man was I bummed. Was there any movie ever made that made you more proud to be an American then Red Dawn?

Driving home from S.C. on 95 yesterday was a nightmare. Why is it so hard for people to drive when the road gets wet? I don’t know how many cars I saw off the road. An 8 hour trip took 11 and the little man really did great up until the last hour.

I don”t knoe if this will work but I found a picture of the rainfall map from yesterday. If it works look at the hot pink over western Caroline County!
Well it didn’t work. I got it off of a weather message board that you need to be logged into, so I can’t link it, but trust me its imoressive.
