Offensive Line Still a Concern for Terps
We all knew the offensive line was the biggest question mark for the Terps coming into this football season, and through the first week of camp and first scrimmage, there hasn’t been much change yet. Now as stated in the recap of the first scrimmage Coach Friedgen was trying different people to look at potential depth, but it is getting to the point where they need to play together to try and gel.
Everyone seems pretty high on Bruce Campbell and Phil Costa manning Left Tackle and Center to this point. Several reports have Lamar Young and Andrew Gonnella both playing well to date. Gonnella has moved from #2 on depth chart at Left Guard to #1 at Right Guard according to an interview with Maryland coach on UmTerps.com.
According to Patrick Stevens D1scourse blog, Phil Costa is really becoming the leader of the line, and trying to help any way possible. The downside, is he still sees plenty of room for improvement, especially at Right Tackle where he says none of the three player competing for the job have stood out to him. So the battle between Paul Pinegar, Tyler Bowen, and R.J. Dill continues. Hopefully they can get one of these players to step up, but even Friedgen admits everyone is going to have to play at some point, so there needs to be improvement across the board.
