Meet the Newbies: Ryan Donohue

Next up in our “Meet the Newbies” series is Ryan Donohue.  Ryan is a LB prospect from Montvale, NJ.  For those keeping score, he is one of 7 LB’s we have coming in this year.  Actually I take that back.  We have 6 coming in this year.  David Mackall is going to prep school.  Now I believe in depth and all, but at some point you have to think some of these guys may end up at other positions.  I don’t know who makes that decision (actually I think I do), but I’m glad it isn’t me.  I have often fantasized about various jobs that I would enjoy; baseball GM, free lance writer, cartoon voice person (I know that last one is off the wall, but read up on this, these guys work like 40 minutes a week and get paid very well).  But I’ve never fantasized about being a head football coach, and this reason is probably why.

If Ryan were to move from LB, and there is no indication he would I’m just making a point here, it would be a good indication of our depth and talent we have stockpiled because Donohue comes highly touted.  The 6’2″ Donohue(it rhymes), committed to Maryland relatively early and went on to have a super senior season.  He recorded 135 tackles in 2008 while leading St. Joseph’s Regional HS to a State Championship.  This was good enough to have him ranked 66th among inside linebackers by Scout.com, and 75th in the same category by Rivals.com.  Rivals also had him as the 25th best overall player in the Garden State.

He also drew enough attention to be named All State in 2008.  Some other schools that he considered were Rutgers, Miami, UNC, Vanderbuilt, PSU, and Akron.  Fortunately for us, he wound up in College Park.  It is here where he would like to continue his studies in Kinesiology.

On a personal note, Ryan Donohue was born on December 2nd 1990 in Rockland County New York.  Some things of note about December 2nd, are that it is the same day that witnessed the births of Britney Spears (I swear I had to look that up it wasn’ t off the top of my head), Nelly Furtado, and Lucy Liu.  Also on this date in History Helmut Kohl wins the first free all German election since 1932.  As an side, Kohl’s reign was a lot more productive for the country than the winner in 1932′s reign.

Extra Droppings:

Well, well, well.  Big Papi and Manny were both on Steriods.  I could not be any happier.  The single worst development in sport this decade has been the rise of Red Sox Nation (they make Yankee fans seem almost human).  Hopefully this news will take them back down a peg.  Oh I’m sure there will be legions of fans out there who will try to justify this, but the fact is Boston hasn’t won a World Series without the help of steriods in over 90 years.  Sure the O’s are struggling, but there aren’t any asteriks next to 1966, 1971, and 1983!

It is really interesting to see how many players move around. What really is interesting is how many people take their shot at QB and then move. Look at Erin Henderson and Gronkowski recently. Drew Gloster moved from TE and is on this years depth chart at LB. Nolan Carrol started as a WR etc. etc.
