Meet the Newbies: Avery Graham

Personally I love kids like this.  Here is a quote from new Terp DB, Avery Graham in a Q & A with Matt Bracken:  “It was Maryland all the way. A lot of schools were contacting me, but I always liked the      Terps. I’m from Baltimore and I wanted to stay near my brother. I didn’t consider other schools. I had other offers, but it was Maryland all the way.”

What more can you say about a kid that wants to be at Maryland from day one.  You don’t hear that all that often.  After all it isn’t like Maryland has the reputation or history of USC or anything.  So when a kid like this comes along, you really have to embrace it.  Avery comes to the Terps by the way of Clarksburg HS.  He played corner and running back, and both of the major scouting websites have him rated as a three star recruit.  The interesting thing is Rivals has him as the #69 corner, while Scout has him as the 105 rated running back.  My guess is he winds up at corner, but you really never know.

During his senior season at Clarksburg he recorded 89 tackles, 4 interceptions on defense, while rushing for over 600 yards on only 51 carries.  The stat that probably caught the coaching staff’s attention is the 4.23 forty.  With that speed he intends to run track as long as he keeps his grades above a 2.5.  Avery intends on majoring in Animal Science.   One last academic note.  He list Boyz N the Hood as his favorite movie.  Avery, if you want to take an American Studies course, make sure you take History of Technology in America with Myron Loonsbury.  We watched Boyz N the Hood as part of the class.

Oh, almost forgot, Avery was actually born in Baltimore on January 8, 1991.  On that date in history (actually this is one day after Avery’s birth) UNC walloped the beloved Terps behind Hubert Davis’ 25 points.  The final score was 105-73.  Also on that day (in 1935) Elvis Presley was born.  Avery, the good news is you can become one of few celebs born on that day!

So there you have it, welcome to the Terps Avery, and good luck with the Animal Science Major.  I know a couple of guys here will be keeping a close watch on you.

Avery has a real shot at being my new favorite player. Scratch out his name (and 40 time) and that could be me giving that interview. Of course I don’t have a brother, but still.

    Hello,
My name is Stephanie Girard and I am working to set up the Raycom Sports’ ACC blog network (www.raycomsports.com). The network will be launching this fall and we would love for you to be a part of it from the beginning. It is a great chance to introduce your opinions, writing style, and links to your site to the Raycom audience.
I would love a chance to discuss this opportunity with you personally. Please let me know your availability and the best way to in touch with you. Then, we can go over the particulars of the network. I have also included a little more information below. Thank you, in advance, and I look forward to talking with you!

    BLOG INFO:
Raycom Sports is launching a blog network this fall. This network of blogs will feature all the teams of the ACC. We are looking for passionate sports bloggers to provide content for our new team blogs. This is a chance to work with your fellow fans and connect to your school’s fan base.
This is not a paying gig but it will give you exposure to the entire RaycomSports.com audience, a chance to hone your skills, and the ability to connect with other passionate ACC fans. The best content will be featured on RaycomSports.com video team page, our twitter feed, weekly email, etc.
Please note: The platform here is WordPress. Familiarity with it is useful, but not essential.
What we are looking for in a blogger:
    • Original content. We would prefer not to have reposts from your blog. Posts don’t have to be too long. Just passionate and well-thought out.
    • Commitment: We are looking for at least one post a week. Again, the posts do not have to be war and peace. They can be short, they can be long…..
    • Passion for your team in particular and the ACC in general.
    • Linking back to your site is okay, as long as it’s relevant.
