It’s about Friggin Time!

Shaun Hill was named the starting QB for the San Francisco 49′ers today.  As for me, my first thought is what has taken so long?  Hill played really well last year and actually sports a 7-3 record as a starter.  Now I’m not saying he will be the next Joe Montana, but going 7-3 with a team like SF is something to brag about.

Now let me throw out two names for you.  Donovan McNabb and Eli Manning.  What do they have in common?  They both posted a QB Rating lower than Shaun Hill in 2008!  Hill’s rating was 87.5 just .2 points behind Matt Ryan, yet no one is saying there is an open competition in Atlanta, Philadelphia, or New York?  Why doesn’t Hill get any love?  Well I guess we don’t have to worry about that any more.  Shaunn Hill will get to start the season which means if he plays up to his capabilities, he will keep the job for a long time to come.  I’m just bitter it took this long for him to get it.

Anyway, back to Maryland Football of the present.  The latest news out of College Park is that the VT game is officially sold out.  I don’t think this really surprises anyone, but figured I’d mention it.  If you were waiting to get your Hokie Tickets, I guess you’d better try Stubhub or eBay.

Also I wanted to point this out, Cory Jackson was given a little bit of a compliment in the last Practice Notes on UMTerps.com.  His blocking ability is going to be put to the test this season, and if he can pick up some of those blitzes it is going to make a world of difference for our offense.  I just wanted to mention him because to me it seems he has sort of been lost in all of the preseason hoopla.  Here’s to hoping Cory Jackson has a huge year.  Keep working Cory, we appreciate your hard work, even if it sometimes goes unnoticed.

An update to this story. Hill injured his back on Wednesday and was only able to throw one ball in practice. He may have to miss this weekends preseason game.
