Meet the Newbies: De’Onte Arnett

Wow, I can’t believe how little time we have before fall camp opens up.  With every back to school commercial I see, I get more and more excited for College Football season.  And I used to hate those damn commercials.  Now they are like the first robins of spring.  Anyway, we still have to pound out about 6 more ”Meet the Newbies” (5 after I finish this one).  I can’t say that I am doing these in any particular order, but after reading this one, you could make an argument that I am saving some of the best for last.

Next up for Meet the Newbies is De’Onte Arnett.  De’Onte though a freshman entered school in January, so he does have a whole spring practice season under his belt.  And what a belt it is.  De’Onte comes to Maryland measuring at 6’4″ and 250 lbs.  He is a Defensive Lineman and a pretty good one at that.  How good you ask? (You did ask right?)  Well he is good enough to be ranked 6th in the nation among strongside DE’s according to Rivals.com.  Rivals also had him ranked 3rd nationally among DE’s against the run.  He also checks in at #93 in Rivals top 100 and is #2 on their list of top 20 Marylanders.

De’Onte comes to us from near by Capitol Heights, MD.  And he choose Maryland because of both the football and engineering program.  Prior to enrolling at College Park he attended Forestville Military Academy.  In his spare time he enjoys playing chess.  De’Onte also drew interest from Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State, Tennessee, and Boston College prior to choosing the Terps.

Continuing on the personal notes, De’Onte was born December 19, 1991 in Washington DC.  On that day in history Steve Howe of the New York Yankees was arrested for cocaine possesion.  Unfortunately for Howe that was pretty much par for the course.  He went on to be suspended 7 times (Apparently MLB only turns the other cheek for drugs that increase ratings).  His tragic life finally ended in a car wreck in April of 2006.  In lighter news, on December 19, 1991, DC was months behind schedule for leaf clean up.  Otherwise another slow day, unless of course you were a member of the Arnett family!

So welcome to Maryland De’Onte, we look forward to you wrecking havoc on opposing QB’s and RB’s.

Extra Droppings:

Well from my last post I promised you all an update on our flip cup tournament.  The results were mixed.  We finished 3rd out of 9.  Overall I thought we were the 2nd best team there, which even had we not choked in the semi final, wouldn’t have gotten us much more than a higher blood alchol level.  In collateral damage half of our 6 man team threw up as a result of the contest, which is a higher percentage than our flipping stats.  No one played great, we all had moments of competance, and complete incompetence, but it was definitely a night that will be talked about for years to come, so we got that going for us!  Oh and over $800 was raised for breast cancer research, which I guess is the most important stat of all.
