Meet the Newbies: Caleb Porzel
Hopefully Caleb Porzel will be the next running back of note in College Park. Under Friedgen, the Terps have had a nice stable of capable backs, and Porzel is a local kid who should continue the trend. Caleb comes to Maryland as highly regarded back and for good reason. He was the Crab Bowl MVP according to Scout.com. Scout also list him as a 4 star running back and the 14th overall.
Caleb comes by way of Good Counsel High School. His senior stats are impressive with 1,152 yards on 121 carries and 16 TD’s. For good measure he added two kick return TD’s and one receiving TD. The impressive stat for Porzel is his 4.21 40 time. His list of other schools considered includes West Virginia. If he turns out to be a very, very good back, will ESPN show numerous interviews talking about how he stayed home instead of going to WVU when they play? My guess is no.
Caleb was born in Salisbury, Maryland on April 26, 1991. He shares a birthday with former NFL running back Natrone Means. Here’s to hoping he makes it to the NFL as well. Now the Washington Post headlines are Bob’s thing, but here is an interesting list of things from 1991:

The news I have been waiting for was announced today by the Terps. Terrapins Rising will be aired for 8 consecutive weeks at 9:30 PM every Tuesday starting next week on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. The season is around the corner!

Wow the cost of the house is what shocks me the most. I’m just shaking my head over that one. I was begining to wonder about Terrapin Rising, that is definitely good news.
