Meet the Newbies: Pete deSouza

Continuing in our series of the incoming freshman class for Maryland Football we are up to Silver Spring resident, and Dematha graduate Pete deSouza.  Pete is a 6’7″  320 lb offensive lineman.   While he is only ranked the #60thoverall OL in the country, and 3 star prospect on scout.com, we all know that any team can use big lineman at some point.  Maryland is razor thin on the line and though Pete most likely doesn’t fit into the rotation this year, it is good to have some depth.

You can thank Coach Friedgen’s Catholic faith for helping Pete in making his decision.  He sounds like a down to earth kid, and even if not for sharing the Catholic faith with the Fridge, Maryland was close to home, and he really wanted his Mom to be able to see him play, after everything she has done for him to help get him to this point.

Pete helped lead the Dematha Mustangs to the Washington Athletic Conference Championship during his senior season.  He was born in San Francisco on October 14, 1990.  And that bring us to the highlight of our articles.  What happened that day?   Well back in 1971 former Terp Frank Wycheck was born as well.   Instead of video games, I searched for top toys of 1990, and guess what appeared?  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  If they wouldn’t have been so popular, maybe we would still have Rock and Roll Part II instead of the Ninja Turle Theme being played at Maryland Football games!

Anyway, Pete if you are reading, you sound like a great kid, with tremendous work ethic and upside.  We are looking forward to seeing you on the field some day for Maryland Football.
