Meet the Newbies: Nick Ferrara
This is the 1st of many looks at the incoming Maryland Football players. Let’s face it, the heat and humidity are just about to settle over the Mid-Atlantic region for the next few months, and as we move even deeper into June, there really is little to report in terms of Maryland Athletics. So in order to fill some time (at least until the Lance Stephenson Decision is made), we are going to take a look at the incoming Maryland Football players on a one on one basis.
Also please remember we have a link to Matt Bracken’s blog on the Sun, he has the resources to put together a little more of a professional look at the incoming class, so if you want to learn more about a particluar player, please check it out.
Being an ex-soccer player, it is only natural that our first profile is on the kicker! Afterall he’s the reason we call it “Foot”ball (take that QB’s!!). At any rate, Nick comes to Maryland, like so many others, via Long Island New York. His hometown is Hickstown, NY. Nick was injured for part of his Senior year, but he was still able to connect on 14 of 16 FG attempts. He also nailed 46 of 48 PAT’s (I’m guessing that is career, otherwise the Saint Anthony’s HS Football team had quite the season).
Nick is, or shall I say was since all these rankings are now pretty much irrelevant, the #28 kicking recruit in the Nation. He has a career long of 47 yards, which needless to say was a school record. He also considered Michigan, Tennessee, South Carolina, Penn State, Georgia, LSU, and Rutgers. Now I don’t know what that means as in “Considered”, but that is what the press release says. Ralph recruited him (actually to be more specific Dave Sallazo recruited him) because of his kickoff abilities. It is also hoped that he will be able to come in and win the job from the get go.
Now under the category “Let’s all Feel Old”, Nick was born on April 24, 1991 (My -13 year anniversary!) that is 18 days AFTER the end of the Persian Gulf War. I also looked up what else happened historical on this day, and nothing really of note did. Garth Brooks won big at the CMA’s, and that was about it for that date. So Nick, it’s wide open. If you go on to have a successful career at Maryland, April 24th 1991 could be a famous date in Terrapin history…with apologizes to Garth.
So welcome to Maryland Nick Ferrara!

Nick was actually 46 for 48 on PAT attempts just in his senior year. Overall, he was 79 for 81.

Wow, that is a lot of TD’s. It’s hard for me to phathom coming from a HS that once lost a game 3-2.

Did we recruit the rest of his offense? We should have from all those TD’s. 3-2 football is hard to watch Chris.
