Johnny Holiday Leads List of Seven Terps into Athletic Hall of Fame
Some days you come home hoping there is some sort of news out there for you to report on. (Usually, I think maybe, just maybe, today is the day Lance Stephenson will make his college decision). Today is certainly one of those days, and I was greeted with a nice treat from the Maryland Athletic Department.
The class of 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame members were announced, and they were headlined by Johnny Holiday. This last football and Basketball seasons were Johnny’s 30th seasons as “The Voice of the Terps”. Holiday has broadcast over 1,100 Maryland Men’s Basketball games.
Other members of this years class include current Field Hockey Coach Missy Meharg (6 National Championships in 21 years), Desmond Armstong-Men’s Soccer (Class of ’84, member of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Member of the ACC’s top 50 player list), Dale Castro-Football (Class of ’79, Walter Camp Award Winner, First Team All-America Place Kicker), Conrad Hemphill-Baseball (Class of ’54, Holds the Maryland record for wins by a pitcher with 21), Kate Kauffman-Beach-Field Hockey (Class of ’96, two time First Team All-America), and last but not least, Charles Rennie-Smith – Men’s Lacrosse (Class of ’55, 3 time Second Team All-America, Captain of the 1955 National Championship Team).
So there you have it. Some exciting fresh news to keep the site going, during what could be a long summer. But continue checking, as you never know just what news may break. Congratulations again to the new Hall of Fame Inductee’s from us here at Turtledroppings.
Extra Droplets
My wife and I drove from Boston to Montreal this past weekend to celebrate our birthday’s and anniversary (all happen in about a 10 day span). This was my first trip to Canada, and I must say I truly enjoyed myself. If you are looking for a unique place to have a bachelor party, may I suggest Montreal. Anyway, this is a sports website, and that place is nuts for hockey, the way the US is with the NFL and Super Bowl. They were actually showing NHL Combine highlights. The other exciting thing that I thought was interesting was on the bottom line they showed a little red maple leaf next to Canadian players on the MLB scores. So say Jason Bay had an RBI next to his name was a little red Maple Leaf.

Congratulations on going to Montreal. If I’m not mistaken you have set a new record for the farthest north you have been.

More specifically Bar Harbor. Looks like Montreal by a hair. Did you try the Molson XXX?
