Terps Lax Dominates Notre Dame

Maryland Men’s Lacrosse put on an impressive display today in South Bend as they totally dominated the Irish.  They advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament thanks to a smothering defensive effort and 9 saves by Goalie Brian Phipps.  Jeremy Sieverts and Joe Cummings gave the Terps a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter, and never really looked back.  Rob Morrison scored in the third to give Maryland a five goal lead, and in essence put the game away.

Notre Dame came into the game undefeated and #2 in the polls, but the Great Western Lacrosse League didn’t have the competition the ACC or other East Coast Lacrosse teams faced and it showed.  Even the NCAA noticed Notre Dame hadn’t faced stiff competition as they were awarded the 7 seed in the Tournament.

Up next for the Terps is the winner of tonight’s Syracuse and Sienna game.  Maryland reaches the quarterfinals for the 29th time in school history.  That game will take place in Hofstra next Saturday.
