Terps and Cuse Split in NCAA Lacrosse Tourney

It was a mixed bag of results for both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Teams yesterday, as both teams took on Syracuse.  Let’s start with the Men.  If watching starting goalie Brian Phipps tear his ACL while jumping up and down after protesting a missed call.  That should have been a sign of the way things were going to go.  The Terps fell down early, and battled back, but could never get the lead below 2 before falling apart late in the third period.  It wasn’t the most well played games for Maryland, and they just seemed to be a little off and sloppy on offense.  They end the season one game short of the Final Four again.

With the women, we have better news to report.  They won 12-10 over the Orange.  This one was a little tighter than the first round, and they would need to overcome a 4-0 deficit.  After falling down early Maryland was able to get 4 straight goals themselves to tie the game.  They had a 7-6 lead at the half, and would hang on to advance to take on UNC at the Final Four in Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson.

Extra Droplets

I didn’t have a lot going on yesterday, and the Volvo Ocean Race was starting leg 7 (Boston to Gallway Ireland) yesterday.  I figured I would walk down to Castle Island in Southie to see the boats sail by as they were leaving Boston Harbor.  The day was beautiful in the morning.  They were scheduled to depart at 1:00.  As I left my house and got a block or so from the water, you could see the fog starting to roll in.   As I got to the fishing pier with about 70 or so other people, you couldn’t see across the harbor to Logan Airport.  You couldn’t see the planes over head.  In fact we didn’t see the boats leave.  They were only about 400 yards away, and they went by unbeknownst to us all.  After I got home I read about the start and it mentioned a near collison with a freighter that did go into the harbor.  As big as that ship was, it wasn’t until it was right in front of the pier that we saw it!  Just my luck.
